A hometown sponsorship is on the books to preserve and restore the Old Clarkesville Cemetery, thanks to Hillside Memorial Chapel & Gardens.
The donation at the Wyly level will also underwrite an upcoming fundraising event, the Gloaming Picnic & Art Auction, said Historic Clarkesville Cemetery Preservation, Inc. Board Chair and Clarkesville Mayor Barrie Aycock.
“This donation is so appreciated as we rekindle our fundraising efforts this year,” Aycock said. “It is fitting that we add Hillside Memorial Chapel & Gardens to our growing lists of corporate supporters.”
The late Sam Tolbert, who founded Hillside in a historic home adjacent to the cemetery, was a noted history buff. His son Brent Tolbert is pleased to add support to the historic landmark in his father’s memory.
“My family and I are excited to honor my father’s legacy through these restoration efforts of such a sacred and beautiful place in our community,” Tolbert said. “We would like to thank the Historic Clarkesville Cemetery Preservation board for the opportunity to be a part of the progress at this special place.”
