Old Clarkesville Cemetery board reconvenes in 2019

Visible progress is evident at the Old Clarkesville Cemetery as the new year begins.
Members of the Historic Clarkesville Cemetery Preservation, Inc. board of directors met on Jan. 9 to regroup after the holidays. In addition to regular business, members heard from special guest Will Lockwood who is helping with local research.
An article in the Oct. 27, 1927 edition of the Tri-County Advertiser, written by Mrs. J.T. Pittard, references the unmarked graves of African-American residents. Based on the article, board members have determined the approximate location of the burial sites. The families represented will be included in the data collection that is part of the cemetery restoration project.
