Help us preserve the cemetery

Dear Friend and Supporter of the Old Clarkesville Cemetery,

Thank you for your steadfast support. This circa-1831 historic site continues to offer a peaceful respite just steps from the bustle of the Clarkesville Square. It stands as a landmark of local pride and a meaningful chapter in the broader history of our region and nation.
Since 2017, an all-volunteer board has worked diligently to safeguard this special place. With your generosity, we have repaired more than 50 damaged and neglected gravestones, including several major restorations. We have shared the stories of Clarkesville’s early residents who rest beneath the shade of native hemlocks. We have hosted events and laid wreaths to honor military service. We have advanced research to elevate the stories of all people interred here, including members of the Black community. We are soon to install interpretative signage honoring some of these community members. And we have developed a mobile app, launching in 2026, to help visitors explore the cemetery with ease.
These efforts represent just a portion of what your support has made possible. Members of Historic Clarkesville Cemetery Preservation, Inc. remain dedicated to restoring the beauty and dignity of this rural Victorian garden cemetery and preserving the legacy it embodies.
Your past contributions – whether corporate or individual – have brought us closer to realizing our vision for this sacred space.
As the year comes to a close, we invite you to consider a renewed gift. As a 501(c)(3), all donations to our organization are tax-deductible as allowed by law.
If you have any questions or would like to visit the cemetery, we would be pleased to offer a tour.
Warm regards,
Historic Clarkesville Cemetery Preservation, Inc.
